Tuesday Spread Option

1. What is your reaction to the Percy Harvin Trade? Who do you think won the trade? Or do you think that it is a good move for both teams?

Spencer-

If you're an NFL fan you pretty much saw this coming I think. There had been mumblings of Harvin's trading for a while now so it was no surprise he got shipped.  Nonetheless I think this trade was beneficial to the Seahawks who can now add an elite receiver to their offense and a quick one at that who can create space for other players to get open underneath much like Mike Wallace did for Pittsburgh. I respect the Vikings for acquiring draft picks but unless you are being guaranteed a guy who is basically going to be a player who completely redefines your team or that position on your team I don't think trading for draft picks is always your best bet unless you're Bill Belichick.  Nonetheless it seemed like a fair trade to me but I think the Vikings gave away a guy that is essential to their offensive success especially if Ponder remains their QB.

Ty-

At first I was surprised because, although there was talks about him being traded, It was hard for me to believe that they would trade their 2nd best player and only worth while receiver. But looking further into it I think that it was a deal that made a lot of sense for both teams. The  Vikings were not going to be able to sign him to the type of deal that Harvin wanted. The Trade picks including a #1 this year is a bargain and can be used to draft younger cheaper Wide Receivers. Harvin also hasn't proven that he could stay healthy and has had migraine issues throughout his career so it makes sense for them not to guarantee him big money For the Seahawks this was a no brainer because although Golden Tate and Sydney Rice have been decent wide out options they are not as explosive and threatening as Percy Harvin. I expect the Vikings to be worse off and the Seahawks to be even more dangerous in the short term.

2. What is your reaction to this DeAndre Jordan dunk? Do you think it is the dunk of the year and what is your most favorite dunk of all time?

Spencer-

Unreal. Jordan's dunk made everyone in that arena stand up and could of causes a small earthquake with how loud it got. Honestly an amazing dunk, and the Clippers continue to live up to their nickname of Lob City. The best dunk of the year by far, and in terms of of all time I think this one can rank up there, but nothing will ever beat Vince Carter's dunk over Frédéric Weis in the Olympics in 2000. Dude was 7' 2'' and Vince Cater jumped over him and yammed it like it was nothing. Basically disrespected Weis and his family right there in front of the WORLD. Go ahead and Google Frédéric Weis, and all you see of pictures of Vince Carter giving him the business.

Ty-

DeAndre's Knightmare dunk (see what I did there), over Brandon Knight was absolutely Putrid and Disgusting in the best way possible for everyone except Brandon Knight. What was Knight thinking? Mid Air he had to think to himself that he made the worst decision of his career. Sure he was doing the right thing by "playing defense" but at the end of the day it was 2 points that turned in to 3 because he played defense, in a game that was already a blow out. I'm sorry but the 2 points were not worth his trouble. This dunk is up there with the best dunks in the NBA but in a different category. This dunk belong in the disrespectful category like Kobe on Dwight, Tracy Mcgrady on Shawn Bradley or Shawn Kemp with the dunk and point. The most Disrespectful dunk similar to this was Scottie Pippen on Patrick Union. The dunk with Scottie pushing Ewing to the ground was pure disrespect at it's finest.

3. Which NCAA Basketball player has the most draft stock to gain in their conference tournament and the NCAA tournament coming up? Who is your favorite for Most Outstanding Player essentially?

Spencer-

Kelly Olynyk, Pictures from Google
I think players in the Big Ten that have been receiving draft attention this year have the most to prove in terms of draft stock, particularly cause I think a lot of the biggest names in terms of NBA recognition are coming out of that conference.  Victor Oladipo is one that could bump himself up in the draft if he decides to go as he has a teammate who is also going to be in the discussion for Most Outstanding Player along with him, but that is just one example.  Kelly Olynyk of the #1 ranked Gonzaga could look to improve his stock as well if he decides to leave as his team sits at number one and he will look to prove his place among other top players in the NCAA tournament.  In the end I think it will end up being one of the guys from Indiana most likely Zeller for the strong year he had and looking to continue much of the same in the tournament.

Ty-

There are a lot of players that can help themselves tremendously over the next month during March Madness. Ben Mclemore can cement himself as a favorite for the #1 pick if he becomes more aggressive in the tournament. He has had awesome games where he can't miss and is ultra aggressive but also has games like against Oklahoma State where he just doesn't show up. Victor Oladipo can surely raise his stock even more although it has skyrocketed in this season. But the guy who can prove a lot is Shabazz Muhammed, he has been slowly getting better as the year has gone on. He started out with some nagging injuries and sat out due to an NCAA investigation but has been showing how he can be a prolific scorer. If he leads the UCLA team deep into the NCAA tournament then his draft stock will surely rise.

4. The Blackhawks streak might be over but the Heat are still on fire and have won 18 straight and has beaten each team in NBA at least once. How long do you think this streak will last? And is there any chance that they won't repeat?

Spencer-

It could last as long as till the end of the Month when they face the Spurs and Knicks within three days of each other, but it could end before that too if they aren't on their A game every night.  Obviously streaks can come to an end against any opponent and the Heat have had their fair share of close calls but the way they are playing right now is electrifying and entertaining.  It is certainly something people are keeping their eyes on.  In terms of repeating it definitely isn't a guarantee that they win it all again.  A teams like the Knicks can give them a run in the Eastern Playoffs, and in the West its obvious the Spurs, and Thunder could offer them a tough match up in the finals, and even the Lakers if they continue to mesh the rest of the season and find success.  Either way I think they are certainly considered the favorites nonetheless.

Ty-

Honestly it looks like the Heat wont lose a game again if they really don't want to but they probably will and should lose soon because you don't want the distraction of an all-time great streak going into the playoffs. Sure you want to go in to the playoffs hot but worrying about a streak could take focus from your opponent. That being said if you look at their schedule you can see them continuing for a while. They might be tested by the Celtics on the 18th or the Spurs, like Spencer said on the 31st. But I don't think they will drop a game against somebody we expect to have a chance to beat them but it will be somebody random. They have had random trouble with the Charlotte Bobcats and has lost to the Bucks this year  and they play both of them in the next two weeks. If they were to lose I think it will be one of those teams because the Heat might take them too lightly. If they win those games, which they probably will, than this streak could get historic.

5. The 49ers trade for Anquan Boldin from the Ravens. Who won this trade and do you think this was a direct result of the Percy Harvin trade?

Spencer-

There isn't really a winner in this trade from my perspective.  The 49ers are just adding depth to an already elusive receiving core, which helps QB Colin Kaepernick have more options for next year.  Nonetheless I think that team was expected to have similar success to this year next season as well under coach Jim Harbaugh and company.  For the Ravens they won the Super Bowl, and I think a lot of people expect already they won't have as great success as this year because that defensive core is kind of being broken up especially with the loss of Ray Lewis. They still resigned Joe Flacco though and have other great targets on offense so I don't think it hurts them terribly to lose him and gain a pick in the 6th round where they can possibly draft a late defensive player that they can develop over time.  This trade seems to be very even to me and I think it was absolutely a result of the Seahawks trade for Harvin.  In one sense they wanted to continue to add to their team and make themselves better keeping pace with the Seahawks who were a force in that division that year, but in another sense they wanted to show they can one up the Seahawks too.

Ty-

This trade is a better deal than the Harvin deal for many reasons. The Niners only gave up a 6th round pick for Boldin who doesn't have an extensive injury history as Harvin and if Boldin doesn't pan out the Niners wont owe him a ton of money like the Seahawks would owe Harvin. This obviously makes the Niners better because now that Crabtree has lived up to his potential the receiving core for the Niners has become dangerous. I don't know if this is a direct result of the Harvin trade bu if not it was well timed. The Seahawks are really good and the Niners need all the help they can get to stay on top of the NFC west. Offense wasn't really an issue for the Niners last year but they need to add weapons and keep their great defense together to compete for another Super Bowl next year.

Had to do it.....
