Tuesday Spread Option

1. The Louisville Cardinals won the National Championship game yesterday, were do you rank that game among the most exciting games in the NCAA?

Ty-

That game was probably the most entertaining game I can remember seeing since Kansas beat Memphis in overtime in 2008. That game was only great because Mario Chalmers hit the shot to take it into overtime. The other great game I can remember was in 2003 when Syracuse beat Kansas by 3. In that game just like this game both teams played hard and it came down to the wire. In recent years the title games have been somewhat lopsided and slowed by defense. This game was so fast paced and so offensively oriented, I don't wee why anybody wouldn't enjoy the game last night. Unless your one of the two teams that lost at the final four. That being said this game was plague by sloppy officiating that shaped the outcome of the game. Frankly during the whole tournament I thought the officials where shaky but the players made the game exciting in spite of it.

Spencer-

Unfortunately I couldn't watch more than bits and pieces of the game but from what I saw it was very exciting and one of the most exciting at least in recent memory. I think the Duke Butler game back in 2010 one was a little bit better especially with the near half court buzzer beater but this one was at least exciting with several lead changes and fun to watch. I hate to criticize the refs but the final four refs in general were pretty bad and that was evident again last night in the championship. The worst call of all in all three games was Trey Burke's block on Peyton Siva.  That was clearer than fiji water.  Take a look yourself here...Ball don't lie!

2. The New York Knicks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder over the weekend and have won 12 straight. Do you believe that they are a legitimate contender?

Ty-

The Knicks are surely looking like the real deal. After suffering a a brutal stretch in March that took them out of the second seed in the east, they have battled back. They ripped off a 12 game winning streak. Their best win by far has been against a Thunder team that is fighting for a #1 seed in the west. They also won an impressive game over the Memphis Grizzlies. Other then that though they have played lack luster teams and a Miami Heat squad that rested their starters. The Knicks have done enough lately to make me consider them a real contender threat. Carmelo Anthony has been an absolute monster lately and the addition of Kenyon Martin has helped a lot more than Amar'e Stoudemire did when he was healthy. I still can't see them beating the Heat in a 7 game series but they should make it to the conference finals.

Spencer-

If they play like they did at the beginning of the year, and are now, if Carmelo continues dropping buckets at will like he's playing a CYO team, and if they continue to be hot as a team from three then yes I absolutely believe they could beat the Heat and other contenders in 7 games. For their sake they have to hope they are peaking again at the right time and that stays consistent when the playoffs start. If they hit another slump much like they did in February and March, twice losing four games in a row then they probably can't compete with these better teams. However that slump had a lot to do with injuries as well so really their success is about health.

3. Which College Basketball player do you think raised their draft stock the most in the NCAA tournament?

Ty-

Im going to say Trey Burke. Which seems impossible because he was the player of the year but I think that he did. He moved up Chad Ford's draft board from a mid 1st round pick to a top 10 pick over the last month. I think that Burke showed that despite his size he has the quickness, athletic ability and passing ability to be good at the next level. He also has proven to be a clutch player with NBA range. Did you see how far he was on that game tying shot against Kansas in the elite 8? I think that a team longing for a point guard or even a backup point guard would be happy to take Burke at the 7 spot or lower. I actually think that if he gets on the right team that needs a leader at point guard like Orlando or even New Orleans he can be the Rookie of the year next year.

Spencer-

I think Russ Smith raised his draft stock immensely through the entire NCAA tournament.  In total the dude averaged just about 22 points a game through the tournament while adding on some rebounds and assists to go along with that. He dropped 31 alone in the Oregon game and while only hitting 9 in the championship game I think he proved his maneuverability and quickness can account for an explosive offensive performance game in and game out. I remember being in shock at some of the shots he made in some of the games splitting defenders and hitting a layup while being fouled and falling to the ground.  In the biggest spotlight he was shining brighter than anyone as well and thats a factor NBA teams want to see in a player as well. Someone who isn't rattled in a big moment. I expect him to get some looks heading into draft time and his Dad Russ Smith Sr. explained his son will go out on top and head to the NBA.

4. Yesterday the Umpire missed an obvious ball call in the Rangers vs. Rays game. Do you think that the MLB should have instant replay at least in certain situations like this?

Ty-

They need to implement replay as soon as possible. I understand that Bud Selig thinks that human error is part of the game but.... what? Who really wants human error? That doesn't make sense to me. Human error was part of the game because there wasn't anything that could fix it. Now we have something that can. Now I don't think that you should use it all game but the 9th or extra innings should be a given because it is usually too crucial to the outcome of games. They MLB should have a crew of umpire's at a neutral site look at all the calls and just phone in if they think that the call was botched. Baseball is already a fairly slow paced game and their is time in between a pitch to overturn a call without disrupting the game.

Spencer-

Yes, yes, yes! 100 times yes. How many times have we seen blown calls year after year in baseball? We've seen replay evolve from one sport to the next starting in the NFL, then blossoming into college football and the NBA. Tennis uses replay I think it has just become necessary. We don't want anymore perfect games being blown on bad calls or runners being called safe in important games. Maybe it doesn't have to be used for all plays but atleast balls and stokes and close outs would be nice. I think that would also help the sport gain more fan interest and watchability as a whole.
